Choate Girls’ Lacrosse Program welcomed new Head Coach Ms. Katie Keogh to the Wild Boars lacrosse family. Prior to coming to Choate, Coach Keogh was the Head Coach of the Hopkins Girls’ Lacrosse Team. In college, Coach Keogh played soccer, and shortly after graduating, she decided to start coaching at the high-school level. Because of the many similarities between soccer and lacrosse, Coach Keogh was urged to try coaching both. Ever since, she became immersed in the world of lacrosse coaching. “Lacrosse has become literally, like first and foremost” she said.

Although Coach Keogh had never played lacrosse before, she learned the sport coaching at the junior varsity level. Over the past 22 years, Coach Keogh has dedicated her time to the development of the players.

“[Choate is] the top of the top, you know, when it comes to high school sports, at least locally for me,” Coach Keogh said. “It was a no-brainer. It’s an amazing school, great academics, great athletics.”

With the pandemic putting a halt to many sports seasons, lacrosse will finally be back in full force this spring. Coach Keogh has many goals for the team. “This year, it’s really truly building that foundation. And knowing that there are some very talented kids in the program, utilizing them to put our name back out there and kind of rebrand,” she said.

The everchanging coaching staff over the past two years has put a new emphasis on the necessity for solidified support within the lacrosse program. Co-Captain Dylan Allen ’22 is optimistic about Coach Keogh taking on the new role as Head Coach, “I’m super excited to get a chance to work with an all female coaching staff for our senior season.”

As the team starts to practice and prepare for their season, Allen is anticipating many benefits such as the importance of recruitment and a culture shift being incorporated within the program by Coach Keogh. “I think coach Ke ough will have a big impact on rebuilding our team culture,” she said.

Coach Keogh looks forward to bringing her many years of experience to the girls lacrosse program. She hopes the team feels her support as they grow as both people and players together.

“They just have a spark,” Coach Keogh said of her new players. “It’s just going to be great to see that and be a part of that.”
