Choate Girls’ Varsity Field Hockey is ready for a game against Deerfield field hockey. Despite losing a few games early on, the team has improved greatly throughout the season. The team has been on a roll winning four of its last five games against opponents such as Hopkins, Kingswood-Oxford, Miss Porter’s, and Northfield Mount Hermon. Choate girls field hockey has especially dominated in these games because the team outscored its opponents by two or more points each game only conceded a combined five goals during this stretch of games. In addition to some big wins by Choate field hockey, they have lost some close games as well. In games against Westminster and Taft, the team had a strong defensive performance in both games as it only gave up two goals each game. However, they were not able to find the net, and the team lost both games 0-2.

After graduating many players from last year’s team, Choate still has the experience and talent to finish the season strong. Senior co-captains Riley Marchin ’18, Lexi Takashima ’18, and Madison Sakheim ’18 have been crucial to the team’s success this season, and they will lead Choate field hockey against Deerfield. In addition to the three senior captains, the teams’ goalies Gina Driscoll ’20 and Madeline Horn ’19 have been fantastic all throughout the season by having six different games where they have only let in two goals or less. Forward Kaitlyn O'Donohoe ’19 has been leading the team’s offense by scoring and assisting on many goals. Overall, this year's team has a blend of talented and capable sophomores, juniors, and seniors who will help the team succeed this year and for many years to come.

Heading into Deerfield Day, the Deerfield field hockey team looks to be a tough opponent. Choate and Deerfield hockey have not played each other yet, but both teams have beaten Northfield Mount Hermon. Also, Deerfield had a close 2-0 win against Loomis Chaffee, but Choate had a tough lost 3-4 against Loomis. Against Loomis, Choate field hockey held a 3-2 lead at halftime, but Loomis scored which forced overtime where Loomis scored again.

Choate’s upcoming matchup with Deerfield on Deerfield Day looks to be an exciting one without a true favorite. However, Choate field hockey has strong momentum from a string of victories that it will use to try to beat Deerfield.
